University Overview

The University of Canberra (UC), based in Australia's national capital, occupies a site of almost 120 hectares in the suburb of bruce, about eight kilometres north-west of the central business district. The Bruce precinct includes a technology park, the Australian Institute of Sport, a campus of the Canberra Institute of Technology, a major hospital and several government departments.

The University's mission is to provide the highest level of professional undergraduate education in Australia. It educates students for approximately 30 different professions, among them information technology, management, law, accounting, engineering, teaching, modern languages, marketing, journalism, design, architecture, biomedical science, psychology, nursing, environmental science and sports studies. UC has one of the highest employment rates for graduates in Australia. Courses are organised within three Academic Divisions: Business, Law and Information Sciences, Communication and Education and Health, Design and Science.

UC offers full-time and part-time courses at undergraduate and graduate level. A variety of short courses are available through its professional development programs. The University also provides a full range of professional education services to meet the training and development needs of organisations such as professional bodies and government departments. Residents of the Australian Capital Region and nearby areas also have the opportunity each year to attend UC's Open Day to learn more about the courses and opportunities that UC offers.

To complete its commitment to the education of professionals, UC provides postgraduate professional education. This is increasingly being provided in flexible formats involving intensive teaching, web-based courses and distance education. In addition, the University carries out research, training and development for the advancement of the professions. Undergraduate

At Canberra, students can choose from many degrees under broad areas of study which includes arts and design, business, government and law, education, science, technology and maths and health. Canberra offers different pathway programs for students such as diplomas, UC connect, UC prep, UC start and UCan reach. Undergraduate students can take part in the University of Canberra student exchange program or study abroad which allows them to advance their academic studies while developing a greater understanding of different cultures.

Postgraduate

Canberra has a wide selection of postgraduate courses that will help graduate students further their qualifications and enhance their career opportunities. Examples of postgraduate faculties at Canberra include the faculty of arts and design, faculty of business, government and law, faculty of education, science, technology and mathematics and the faculty of health.

Aside from the postgraduate coursework, research degrees are also available at Canberra. Successful completion of a PhD or Research Masters is an eminent qualification for research students. Students can choose from many research areas such as arts and design research, business, government and law research, education, science, technology and mathematics research and health research.

Scholarships

Canberra has a wide range of scholarships to suit different needs, situations and study interests of students. Every student is eligible: domestic, international, undergraduate and postgraduate. The university offers higher degree by research scholarships to enable suitably qualified students to undertake full-time study towards a research higher degree. Selection is based on academic merit and research potential. These scholarships are tenable for up to three years for a PhD. University Life

Canberra university life nurtures student involvement in a variety of social, cultural, sporting, and recreation activities. Students can pursue their interests and make new friends with Canberra's many clubs and societies. Social life events such as concerts and comedy shows, to music festivals with world class acts and international sporting events there is something for every student.

Student Reviews

Canberra student reviews contain many comments about how tutors and lecturers are very professional and committed. Students say that teachers are always available to help whenever requested and that because Canberra has small class sizes, the lecturer is often also the tutor which is a great advantage.

There is a general consensus throughout the student reviews that Canberra has a relaxed and calm atmosphere which students say lets them concentrate more when studying.
