Scholarship Name:  David E Williams Analytical Reference Laboratory Scholarship

Description:  The scholarship has been developed in honour of the memory of David Williams to support and encourage rural students in financial need to study chemistry. David was born and raised in Bunbury in South West Western Australia. At age 17, out of necessity to pursue a tertiary education, David relocated alone to Perth to study chemistry at Western Australian Institute of Technology (now Curtin University). During this time he faced many challenges, however managed to graduate with Honours in Chemistry and a Graduate Diploma in Business and Administration. David was also offered the opportunity to complete a PhD however declined in order to join the workforce. David had a long and successful career, involving setting up and building the ARL which is the only privately owned Western Australian Analytical Environmental Laboratory of any size today in existence. Sadly, David passed away in 2011 after a long and harsh illness but his wisdom and achievements and contributions to science have been significant. Philosophy Students who are forced to move away from home in order to gain a university education are significantly disadvantaged.
