 Annual Comment:  The scholarship provides a stipend of $31,298 per year (2015 rate, indexed annually) for 3 years for a PhD and 2 years for a master by research. In certain circumstances applicants may be entitled to a 6-month extension. The scholarship also provides a thesis allowance of up to $420 for a master degree and $840 for a PhD, and where applicable, a relocation allowance of up to $1,520.

 Eligibility:  The awards are open to Australian or New Zealand citizens who hold an undergraduate degree with honours class I or IIA or equivalent, and are enrolled in a full-time postgraduate research degree. Applicants cannot: be receiving similar funding or stipend from a Commonwealth Government program; already have completed a degree at the same level or higher as the proposed candidature; or have previously held an Australian Postgraduate Award or APAI for more than 6 months.

 Other Details:  The organisation where the student is enrolled may credit periods of study already undertaken towards the degree. If this occurs, the periods of study before the beginning of the APAI will be deducted from its maximum period of tenure.
