University Overview

La Trobe University is a second-tier university with its main campus situated in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. This campus has been built on a former farm and covers around 330 hectares (approximately 500 acres) of landscaped parkland including extensive water features of lakes and a moat, native-Australian vegetation, and a specialised wildlife sanctuary.

Undergraduate

La Trobe University has many undergraduate degrees that students can choose from. Areas of study include arts and communications, business and economics, education, health sciences, IT and engineering, law and psychology. Aside from the undergraduate coursework degrees, students can also participate in La Trobe's hallmark program which allows students to contribute to real research.

The university also offers different pathway options to help students in their application at La Trobe. Examples of entry schemes include the special tertiary admissions test (STAT), work recognition program, tertiary enabling program, special entry access schemes, learn, experience, access professions (LEAP) and elite athlete bonus scheme.

Postgraduate

Postgraduate programs at La Trobe are basically divided into two, postgraduate coursework and higher degree by research. Study areas include education, health sciences, humanities and social sciences, law and management and science, technology and engineering.

La Trobe supports postgraduate students by offering individual consultations based on staff referrals, workshops at each campus run by each faculty, and a range of other services depending on whether students are enrolled as postgraduate coursework or Higher Degree Research (HDR) student.

Study Online

The study online platform at La Trobe facilitates flexibility for students as they can interact with peers and lecturers anytime and anywhere. Off-campus students can review lectures before the sessions and after at their own pace. They can also ask questions and respond in discussion forums and engage with subjects in a digital platform and check subject and assignment notices and announcements.

External students can study bachelor's degrees, diploma programs, graduate certificates and masters online. A wide range of study fields are available to choose from including ergonomics safety and health, business and accounting, nursing science, human sciences and psychology. Support services are delivered to online students via the LMS (Learning Management System).

International Students

La Trobe University is an international student friendly school that guarantees the welfare of its students through various support programs. To be in a whole different country can be difficult and to help overseas students overcome this, the university guides them even before they arrive in Australia. Assistance with visa, health insurance, a pre-departure webinar and information on suitable accommodations are some of the topics discussed.

Scholarships

La Trobe offers numerous undergraduate and postgraduate coursework scholarships to students. La Trobe's Academic Excellence Scholarships (AES) cover tuition fees for high-achieving Australian and international students accepted into any undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs. The university also has arange of scholarships to support postgraduate students who are undertaking higher degrees by research.

The study abroad program offers outstanding students the opportunity to apply for the prestigious La Trobe university study abroad ambassador scholarship. External scholarships such as the Australian awards scheme, Australia awards endeavour scholarships and Australian council for educational research (ACER) are also available at the university.

University Life

La Trobe university life proves that there's more to classroom lectures and discussions. Student life is a primary focus in the university.
