University Overview

Applications for courses have risen consistently in recent years, reflecting a determination to provide exciting and flexible options that reflect the needs of today's students, their future employers and the wider community. This includes undergraduate degrees and diplomas and postgraduate programs through to doctoral level.

On a per capita basis Flinders consistently rank among Australia's top universities for spending on research and experimental development and for the citation of our work in professional journals.

Undergraduate

Flinders offers a wide array of undergraduate degrees. Depending on their interest, undergraduate students can take degrees which are related to study areas such as education, humanities and law, science and engineering, social and behavioral sciences and medicine, nursing and health sciences.

Students can gain entry into an undergraduate degree at Flinders through year 12 qualifications, foundation studies, special tertiary admissions test (STAT), TAFE/VET qualifications and higher education transfers. Flinders students are able to make industry connections and enhance their skills and experience through workplace and internship programs in Australia and overseas and by participating in the student exchange program.

Postgraduate

For professionals who wish to further their career or want a completely different career, Flinders has a range of postgraduate courses. Postgraduate coursework will lead graduate students to graduate entry bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorates, graduate certificates and graduate diplomas.

Aside from postgraduate coursework, research degrees are also on offer at Flinders. Research degree types include masters by research degree, doctor of philosophy (PhD) and professional doctorate. Study areas include arts, biotechnology, business, clinical education, engineering, laws, science and theology.

Study Online

Flinders provides a range of study online options for students. Selected undergraduate courses such as disability and developmental education, government and public management and theology are offered for external students. Massively Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are freely available, short online courses that are available to anyone to participate in.

The university offers a range of Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Masters programs online. Students can study postgraduate course in many fields including Arts and languages, Business and commerce, Culture, heritage, tourism and theology, education, science, health and medicine and nursing and midwifery. Resources and information such as student help desks, forums, lecture recordings, academic and study skills help are also available for off-campus students.

International Students

Flinders University houses many overseas students and for this reason the institution created support services to address their needs. Prior to coming to Australia, students may download and read through an international student guide which is composed of three parts: a pre-departure guide, an arrival guide and an international student quick guide.

The university's international student services offers a free meet and greet servicefor new international students upon arrival at the airport. After a student's arrival, a briefing will follow. Orientations, on campus tours and academic support are also part of student support programs. Along with all these, the university also grants international student scholarships.

Tuition Fees

Flinders University tuition fees vary depending on student status and the course being undertaken. International students are generally required to pay the full fee for undergraduate study while both local and undergraduate students can be required to pay the full fee for postgraduate study. Sample average indicative fees from Flinders include:

Postgraduate:

MBA:$29,200   Arts/Education:$27,300   Engineering/Science:$32,000

Scholarships

Flinders offers a wide range of scholarships for students who are studying in the undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels. Scholarships are also offered for students who are studying courses under specific study areas such as education, humanities and law, medicine, nursing and health sciences, science and engineering and social and behavioral sciences.

Aside from all these, criteria-based scholarships are also available. Examples of criteria include exchange and overseas travel, international students and regional, rural or remote. The selection basis for all scholarships is through academic merit or financial need.

University Life

University life at Flinders isn't all about study. There's plenty of opportunities for social, sport and fitness activities. The Flinders University Student Association (FUSA) is responsible for organizing student social events and services, including all the non-sporting clubs and societies on campus, social events like O'Week, monthly band days, weekly free student brunches and student forums. Flinders also has a modern fitness center which is equipped with gym equipment, yoga, pilates, squash courts and crossfit training.

Student life is made even better with a range of cafes, bars and restaurants on campus. Flinders also has a number of shops and agencies on campus including banking, pharmacy, post office, travel agent, Unibooks and newsagent. For students who wish to study abroad or participate in the exchange student program, Flinders can also arrange this for them.

Student Reviews

Positive things are mentioned in most of the student reviews for Flinders and one of these is its experienced and competent lecturers. Students appreciate how teachers are always ready to lend a helping hand when needed and encourage questions during difficult lessons. Aside from this, there are also comments on the study support that are available for those who have a difficult time but are more comfortable receiving help from fellow students.

Many students have positive remarks with regards to Flinders state-of-the-art and modern campus facilities which are always made available for student use. Students believe that these facilities greatly aide in their learning. Aside from all these positives, students also love the laid-back and friendly atmosphere at Flinders University.
