University Overview

As of 1st January 2014 the University of Ballarat changed its name to Federation University. With the merger of the University of Ballarat (UB) and Monash University's Gippsland (Churchill) campus taking effect on 1 January 2014, the Victorian government introduced legislation to amend the University of Ballarat Act 2010, to change the name of the university to Federation University Australia.

For many years Federation University has been in the forefront of enterprise and innovation. It boasts up-to- date teaching and research facilities, library, studio and lecture theatres and is known for its distinctive academic programs. A multitude of students study a variety of 50 specialised areas in nine specialist schools. The University's five campuses support its range of subjects with a personalised learning environment unrivalled by any other tertiary institution in Australia.

Undergraduate

FedUni offers an extensive range of undergraduate degrees that allow students to pursuit their interests. The areas of study include building and construction, business, education, engineering, hospitality and tourism, information technology, nursing, social sciences and visual and performing arts. FedUni is a good place to study because it offers industry-relevant programs, an accessible teaching staff and a supportive environment.

The university also has a range of study options available which includes on-campus, distance learning and online learning education. As for entry requirements, undergraduate students are assessed competitively on the basis of Australian Year 12, or equivalent overseas school qualifications.Students with post-school qualifications may be considered for admission through recognition of prior learning.

Postgraduate

Postgraduate coursework and research degrees are offered at FedUni. The coursework postgraduate courses offered at the University include graduate certificates, graduate diplomas, postgraduate diplomas and masters. Research study areas on the otherhand include regional studies, community resilience, rural health and ageing, innovation in coal, geotechnical and hydrogeotechnical engineering and agricultural, environmental and animal science.

FedUni supports all postgraduate students with services that focus on specific needs. The university offers individual training and research assistance as well as group workshops. Information librarians are available by appointment to work with students at all stages of their course. FedUni also offers advice on research strategies and postgraduate library services.

International Students

Federation University offers a wide range of support services for overseas students to help ensure that they live comfortably while staying in Australia. The university provides a pre-arrival guide with information about a complete list of important documents to bring and accommodation and living expenses. FedUni has free airport pick-up, students are met at the Melbourne International Airport and transferred by car or bus.

Once students are fully settled, orientations and social events and activities are scheduled for students. This is to enable them to meet other students and faculty members. Peer support and mentoring programs as well as an international support office are available to cater to the needs of international students. Scholarships for international students are granted to those who meet the eligibility requirements.

Tuition Fees

Federation University tuition fees vary depending on student status and the course being undertaken. International students are generally required to pay the full fee for undergraduate study while both local and undergraduate students can be required to pay the full fee for postgraduate study. Scholarships

FedUni awards scholarships to new and continuing students across vocational, undergraduate and postgraduate program areas. External scholarships are available at FedUni and are sponsored by the Australian government, organizations and partner industries/institution.

The university also offers school-specific scholarships for the federation business school, faculty of education and arts, faculty of health and faculty of science and technology. For students undertaking research degrees, they are also awarded scholarships which may include a stipend and financial support for their research.

University Life

FedUni offers one of the most exciting university life. Living on campus provides students with the best start to their student life. First year undergraduate students are guaranteed accommodation during their first year of study. Student support programs such as guidance and counselling, career planning, medical and dental services and scholarships are also available.

Campus life at FedUni provides students with retail and other services. The Hub, the FedUni store and Ruby's caf� are some examples of these services. FedUni has several recreation, education and health programs with fully qualified and experienced staff. Activities and facilities include water aerobics, pool parties, gym/swim memberships, tennis and squash courts and dance studio. Students can also take advantage of the Campus Life Rewards which provides special offers, instant rewards, exclusive events, promotions and competitions.
