University Overview

Central Queensland University is one of the most innovative, dynamic and richly diverse universities in Australia. Over the past few decades CQU has developed a network of campuses which stretch along the east coast of Australia and extend into the Pacific.

Central Queensland University enjoys a reputation as one of Australia's most progressive and innovative universities. In both teaching and research, our highly qualified and internationally recruited staff place emphasis on finding and challenging new frontiers in our specialist areas of the natural sciences, information technology, humanities, social sciences, media and communications, health and medical sciences, sport and human movement sciences, engineering, economics, business, education, the arts and music.

Campuses are situated in some of the most spectacular locations in the world. Central Queensland is home to five CQU campuses including Rockhampton, Mackay, Gladstone, Bundaberg, and Emerald.

Undergraduate

CQU undergraduate degrees come in different areas such as business, accounting and law, creative, performing and visual arts, education and humanities, engineering and built environment, health, information technology and digital media psychology and social work and community services science and environment. Undergraduate students can also choose from study options which includes distance education, on-campus study and cross-institutional study.

Basic entry requirements include English and academic requirements and supporting documents. Practical experience is very important at CQU and to provide undergraduate students with apprenticeships and traineeships, the university has formed partnerships with business establishments and government and community institutions.

Postgraduate

Graduate studies at CQU is composed of postgraduate coursework and postgraduate research degrees. Study areas in the postgraduate coursework program include business, accounting and law, creative,performing and visual arts, education and humanities, health, information technology and digital media, psychology, social work and community services and science and environment

Postgraduate research degrees on the otherhand include Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and professional doctorates. Eligible graduate students can apply for CQU scholarships which are offered for both postgraduate programs.

Study Online

At CQU, students have the opportunity to study numerous distance education courses. CQU's study online program gives students the flexibility to study a university degree without needing to visit a campus. External students are able to study the program content through the use of online discussion forums, electronic library resources, by contacting lecturers, and receiving all study materials online.

Support services such as electronic library resources, access to recorded lectures online and lecturers who guide and support students, study groups and online discussion forums, access to experienced distance education student mentors and access to CQU's distance education study centres located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Emerald, Melbourne and Sydney are also provided to students.

Distance education programs can be undertaken in many different study areas including business, performing and visual arts, education and humanities, engineering and built environment, health and information technology and digital media.

International Students

CQU has a wide range of support programs for overseas students. Before coming to Australia, students can download an International Student Guide available at the university's page. It contains important information about Visas and Overseas Student Health Cover, Pre-departure information, Accommodation, Late arrivals, Enrolment and Orientation.

Life in a new country can be challenging so the university has prepared a range of activities to help students settle in Australia and learn about the range of support services and opportunities at the campus they will be studying at. International students may request for assistance from student advisers who are available to answer questions and other concerns. Along with all these, the university also grants scholarships for international students who are found eligible.

Tuition Fees

CQUniversity tuition fees vary depending on student status and the course being undertaken. International students are generally required to pay the full fee for undergraduate study while both local and undergraduate students can be required to pay the full fee for postgraduate study. Sample average indicative fees from CQU include:

Undergraduate:

Business:$23,760   Arts/Education:$21,120   Engineering/Science:$30,240  

Postgraduate:

MBA:$26,160   Arts/Education:$19,920   Engineering/Science:$25,200

Scholarships

CQU offers a wide variety of scholarships to support students in all study areas at vocational, undergraduate, postgraduate and research level of study. Equity, indigenous and international student scholarships are on offer at the university. There are also scholarships supported by external agencies, communities and industry partners and the Australian government.

Aside from all these, a number of research scholarships are available for postgraduate research students. The vice-chancellor's scholarship is open to international students who intend to study an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at CQU. It is a merit-based scholarship and application is assessed based on previous academic results which must meet the minimum selection criteria.

University Life

University life at CQU is not only all about academics. Part of the student life, the university provides students with activities and events such as social and cultural excursions which will enable them to meet other students. There are also many clubs and societies which students can choose from depending on their field of interest. Aside from all these, the university highly encourages students to join sports activities and competitions.

To be able to assist students throughout their learning journey, CQU has an available integrated student support network that includes welfare, academic and career support. For new students, CQU provides planners and guides and accommodation advice. Workshops for academic skills preparation are also often conducted on-campus.

Student Reviews

Student reviews for CQU show that many students value the supportive and fun learning environment provided to them by their teachers. Many students appreciate how lecturers and tutors strive to help every student during classroom discussions.

Aside from CQU'S competitive faculty, many students have positive things to say about the school's easy online application. Student comments say that this actually saves them time and effort as they no longer need to visit the admissions office personally.

The most common topic of discussion among many student reviews is CQU's excellent facilities which are available for use to students. A majority of students' comments reveal that they are highly contented with the on-campus facilities.
