 Description:  Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) scholarships are awarded to students of exceptional research potential undertaking a Higher Degree by Research (HDR). APAs are provided to assist with general living costs.

 Annual Comment:  The scholarship provides a stipend of $25,849 per year (2015 rate, indexed annually). Tenure is 2 years for a master by research and 3 years for PhD, with a possible a 6-month extension for PhD students. The scholarship also provides a research training scheme place, thesis allowance and, where applicable, a relocation allowance.

 Eligibility:  Applicants must: be Australian citizens and permanent residents, or New Zealand citizens; hold a bachelor degree with first-class honours (or equivalent); be commencing or continuing full-time (part-time awards are available in exceptional circumstances) in a master by research or doctorate by research at Flinders University; and have had their candidature accepted in the area in which they propose to undertake their studies. Applicants cannot: previously have held an Australian Government Research Scholarship for more than 6 months; be in receipt of an equivalent award (greater than 75 per cent of the base stipend); or have completed a degree at the same level or higher than that proposed.
