Description: The scholarship is in memory of Sow-Theng Leong, Professor of Asian Studies at Murdoch University from 1985 to 1987, and aims to promote academic excellence in the study of Asian languages and cultures. The scholarship is intended to help finance study in South East Asia, China or Japan. Study in the region may include either language study or research at honours or postgraduate level.

Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled in one of the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies, Bachelor of Asian Studies (at either undergraduate or honours level), the Graduate Certificate in Asian Languages or a postgraduate degree that requires travel to Asia for study of an Asian topic. Selection will be based on submitted academic transcript, satisfactory written references from individuals suitable to comment and personal statement.
