University Overview

The University of Wollongong is a University of international standing with an enviable record of achievement in teaching and research. It is conveniently located in one of the most beautiful settings in Australia, just an hour's drive south of Australia's largest city, Sydney.

Undergraduate

Wollongong offers over 120 different undergraduate degrees from across its five faculties, in engineering and IT, health sciences and medicine, business and commerce, applied and natural sciences, arts, communications and creative arts and law and education. These programs may be undertaken through the bachelor degree or bachelor with honours program. Wollongongalso has more than 50 double degree programs available.

Undergraduate student experience at Wollongong is further enriched through an international exchange semester at one of the university's 190 partner universities around the world. Overseas internships are also in place for students as Wollongong has developed partnerships with international industries.

Postgraduate

Students can take postgraduate courses at Wollongong either through coursework or research programs. Similar to undergraduate study, postgraduate coursework assessments are based on a combination of written assignments, presentations, formal examinations, class participation and practical exercises.

As for postgraduate research, there are four research options, Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Philosophy (Integrated), professional doctorate and masters of philosophy. Successful completion of a postgraduate program can help a student fast-track their career, or change careers completely. Wollongong provides flexible study options that allow graduate students to maintain a healthy work/study/life balance.

International Students

The University of Wollongong aims to help overseas students in their stay in Australia through various support programs. Before they come to Australia, the university orients international students on documents that must be packed, phone and computer availability, time zone and flights. Wollongong also offers assistance on finding the right accommodation. Accommodation options include temporary accommodation, on-campus, homestay and private rental.

The university offers a complimentary airport pick-up service for all newly enrolling International UOW students upon their arrival. A compulsory orientation as well as a campus tour is held in the week immediately before the start of a session. This gives international students the opportunity to make new friends and settle into Wollongong before lectures begin. Aside from all these, the university also offers international student scholarships.

International students are generally required to pay the full fee for undergraduate study while both local and undergraduate students can be required to pay the full fee for postgraduate study. Scholarships

Wollongong is committed to help students reach their goals. Undergraduate, postgraduate coursework and research scholarships are on offer at the university. Students can apply for these scholarships based on a number of criteria such as academic merit, leadership/community involvement, sports involvement, current financial need and economic status.

International students are also given priority at Wollongong through their scholarship program. International students may apply for the undergraduate excellence scholarship and faculty merit scholarship. Other scholarships include those that are funded by international agencies, organizations and governments.

University Life

Students can make their university life at Wollongong more meaningful by joining clubs and societies, playing sports and joining recreational activities and making the most out of the social life intended solely for students. Depending on a student's field of interest, a wide variety of student clubs such as charity/service clubs, cultural clubs, political clubs, religious/faith based clubs and recreational clubs are available.

For students who are more inclined to sports, they can choose to join in a number of competitive sports such as basketball, volleyball, tennis and badminton. The university has many support programs to make student life easier. This includes accommodation services, academic support, counselling services, peer mentoring, medical and dental services, financial assistance and scholarships.
