Curtin aspires to be a world-class university of technology. As one of Australia’s leading universities, we are proud of our practical focus on finding creative solutions to problems through the innovative application of technology.

Creativity and innovation are also characteristics of successful partnerships. The development and evolution of productive partnerships, both within the university and with the wider community, is fundamental to achieving our vision.

Firstly, and most importantly, there is our partnership with each and every one of our students. This partnership in the learning process is based on commitment, cooperation and two-way trust. It is also a partnership that extends beyond graduation through Curtin Alumni, ensuring students’ links with Curtin continue throughout their working life and beyond.

Then there are the many partnerships based on collaboration between Curtin’s staff across areas, centres, schools, divisions and levels in an environment based on common values, mutual respect and a genuine commitment to Curtin.

More broadly, we have developed a number of strategic partnerships with:

  • Business and industry such as Optus, BankWest, Woodside Energy Ltd and Metasource Pty Ltd
  • Other universities including the Australian Technology Network (ATN) universities, and many prestigious institutions in Asia, Europe and the United States
  • Governments and government agencies at a state, national and international level, such as the Department of Industry and Technology, CSIRO and the Government of Sarawak
  • The community at the local level and throughout the State

Curtin is ranked third in Australia in income received through research and development contracts with industry, which illustrates our commitment to developing partnerships that benefit industry and, ultimately, the community.

With all of our partnerships, our aim is to enhance the quality and expand the scope of our learning and research activities through the sharing of knowledge, expertise and resources. As a result, Curtin graduates are job-ready and armed with skills that can enable them to make a real and positive impact in a rapidly changing world.

That impact is felt all around the world through the thousands of international students who graduate from Curtin. Our international student population is Australia’s fourth largest, with a third of our students coming from more than 90 countries. Needless to say, this cultural diversity provides a rich and valuable dimension to university life, offering students and staff the benefits of being part of an international network. Importantly, it also prepares our graduates to live and work in an increasingly global environment.

As well as benefiting from a gloriously multicultural environment, the Curtin community also enjoys studying and working in beautiful surroundings. Over the past 10 years, we have greatly expanded and enhanced the main Bentley campus through the addition of the John Curtin Centre, state of the art teaching and research facilities, and extensive landscaping using a mix of native and exotic flora. Just this year our Graduate School of Business has relocated to a heritage building in the Central Business District of Perth that has been superbly renovated to both highlight heritage features and incorporate modern architectural principles.

To achieve our vision of becoming a world-class university of technology, we are committed to continuous improvement and innovation. As our namesake, John Curtin, Prime Minister of Australia from 1941 to 1945, said, "The great university should look ever forward; for it the past should be but a preparation for the greater days to be".
